Tips to Transform Work Culture with Shel Kimen of Ford
- Be what you want to see. Act as if it has already happened.
- Have patience. Change is slow anywhere, it’s even slower in big companies. So much needs to be in alignment for change to happen and it takes time for that to happen
- Trust the process. So much is outside your control. You can only hope everyone needed will play their role, will act when called on. Do what you can to play your part and do it the best way you know how.
- And on the flip side — Forgive yourself. If you don’t say the right thing, prepare the right deck, hire the right person – it’s ok. There are many opportunities to course correct. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
- Repeated small wins is much more effective than large magnanimous ones. The small wins are quick, and often visible. They build trust which will be important when you make a mistake. And you will make many. The big ones take so long to plan out that they are often useless when finally executed. This is a big plug for prototyping and making to learn. Just put one foot in front of the other and do something. Don’t wait for it, don’t overthink it.
